As agriculture and natural resources librarian, Maggie Albro helps students and employees navigate library resources available online and in-person. Maggie is the subject librarian for the departments of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication, Animal Science, Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science, Entomology and Plant Pathology, Food Science, and Plant Sciences. She also serves as the librarian to the School of Natural Resources, University of Tennessee (UT) Extension, and UT AgResearch. In her role, Maggie provides 1:1 and small group assistance through research consultations, information literacy instruction, outreach and engagement activities, and collection development for these departments, schools, and programs.
In addition to her librarianship, Maggie provides service to her profession through the Agriculture Network Information Collaborative (AgNIC), where she serves as chair elect (2022-23) and participates in several working groups, and the United States Agricultural Information Network (USAIN), where she serves as co-convener of the Agricultural Research Services Interest Group and has previously assisted with virtual conference planning activities. Within UT Libraries, Maggie is a member of the One Health Librarians committee and the Systematic Reviews Working Group. She also co-leads the UT Libraries’ Research Interest Group.
Maggie’s research is founded in unexplored areas surrounding the emotional and service labor that goes into the profession of librarianship and seeks to provide context to the lived realities of academic librarians as faculty members. Her current work explores burnout, bullying, and workplace stressors within academic libraries.
Maggie holds a bachelor’s degree in food science from Clemson University and a master’s in library and information science from the University of South Carolina. She is currently enrolled in the Higher Education Administration doctoral program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
