Welcome to your Cinema Studies Research Guide!

This homepage contains resources for cinema studies in general.  See other tabs for resources relating to specific classes or subject areas.

Where to search for movies

Use OneSearch - the library's catalog - to search for streaming video, DVDs, and VHS tapes. There are DVD and VHS players for use in Hodges library.

The UTK Streaming Video Guide provides further information about resources for streaming video. A list of streaming video platforms available through UT Libraries can be found here.

If you find a DVD, Blu-ray, or VHS in another institution's collection, we may be able to borrow it through interlibrary loan. Find the request form on our Resources Sharing page. Playback equipment is available for use in Hodges Library.

JustWatch US provides information on materials in Netflix, Prime Video, Disney +, Apple TV, Hulu, HBO Max, Peacock, Paramount+, and more. Note that these are mainly commercial platforms for which you will need a personal subscription.

ReelGood is a tool that allows you to search across commercial platforms for which you have a personal subscription, such as Netflix, Prime Video, etc. and some free services.

Knox County Public Library's downtown branch has an excellent selection of DVDs and Blu-rays. Members can also access movies via streaming services such as Hoopla and Kanopy (which has a different selection from UTK). If you're not located in Knox County, check out the public library nearest you, many have DVDs and streaming movies freely available to members.
