This multi-faceted agency protects U.S. agricultural health, regulates genetically engineered organisms, manages wildlife damage, and administers the Animal Welfare Act. AWI seeks to alleviate animal suffering by engaging with policymakers, scientists, industry, and the public to support better treatment of animals in research, farm animals, and animals in laboratories. They also advocate for marine life and wildlife by protecting critical habitats and eliminating cruel treatment methods. The AWIC cooperates with the National Agricultural Library to promote animal welfare by providing training, recommending experimental designs, and sharing multi-database searching strategies for users.

The NCBI taxonomy database contains the names of all organisms that are represented in the genetic databases with at least one nucleotide or protein sequence. This is a good resource to use if you need to look up the scientific name of an organism.

The Imaging Anatomy web site, created at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, is a basic atlas of normal imaging anatomy of domestic animals. It is designed as an aid for veterinary students beginning their study of diagnostic imaging.
