We encourage you to use permalinks from OneSearch when sharing library resources on Canvas, syllabi, reading lists, etc. This option is the most stable and will properly authenticate your students whether they're on campus or off campus. To locate a permalink, search for the title of an article, book, book chapter, video, etc. in OneSearch. The Permalink option is located in the Send To box.
Many databases, ebooks, and journal web sites also offer a permalink or persistent URL option. It is important that these URLs contain the proxy information needed for off-campus access. If you do not see utk.idm.oclc.org in the permalink generated from these sources, you can create a proxied link using the following format:
For example, https://utk.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-94-009-1273-1.
Digital Media Services (DMS) will digitize library-owned book chapters, journal articles, videos, and audio for use in Canvas. Contact your subject librarian if you need assistance locating online alternatives. For materials that cannot be digitized, we offer Course Reserves.
You can place library-owned or personal copies of books and other physical items on course reserves with loan periods of 2 hours, 1 day, or 3 days.
We encourage instructors to contact their subject librarian to see if there is an online alternative. You can also ask Digital Media Services (DMS) to digitize library-owned book chapters, journal articles, videos, and audio for use in Canvas.
