Online Materials
- Use permalinks from OneSearch when sharing library resources on Canvas. Links are less likely to be broken, but most importantly, your students will be able to access the materials when they are off campus. To locate a permalink, search for the title of an article, book, book chapter, video, etc. in OneSearch. The Permalink option is located in the Send To box.
- Use the permalink or persistent URL option provided by databases, ebooks, and journal web sites.
Note: It is important that these URLs contain the proxy information needed for off-campus access. If you do not see utk.idm.oclc.org in the permalink generated from these sources, create a proxied link using the following format:
https://utk.idm.oclc.org/login?url=[Insert URL]
Example: https://utk.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-94-009-1273-1.

Physical Materials
Digital Media Services (DMS) will digitize library-owned book chapters, journal articles, videos, and audio for use in Canvas. Contact your subject librarian if you need assistance locating online alternatives. For materials that cannot be digitized, we offer Course Reserves.
You can place library-owned or personal copies of books and other physical items on course reserves with loan periods of 2 hours, 1 day, or 3 days.
We encourage instructors to contact their subject librarian to see if there is an online alternative. You can also ask Digital Media Services (DMS) to digitize library-owned book chapters, journal articles, videos, and audio for use in Canvas.
If we do not have the item you need for your class, ask your subject librarian to add it to the collection, or submit a Suggest a Purchase form.
Open educational resources (OER) are free textbooks and other learning materials that can often be repurposed for your needs. Explore our guide to OER, and ask your subject librarian for assistance in locating materials.
