by B.K. Borison
A hopeless romantic meets a jaded radio host in this cozy, Sleepless in Seattle-inspired love story from beloved author B.K. Borison.
Aiden Valentine has a secret: he's fallen out of love with love. And as the host of Baltimore's romance hotline, that's a bit of a problem. But when a young girl calls in to the station asking for dating advice for her mom, the interview goes viral, thrusting Aiden and Heartstrings into the limelight.
Lucie Stone thought she was doing just fine. She has a good job; an incredible family; and a smart, slightly devious kid. But when all of Baltimore is suddenly scrutinizing her love life-or lack thereof—she begins to question if she's as happy as she thought. Maybe a little more romance wouldn't be such a bad thing.
Everyone wants Lucie to find her happy ending... even the handsome, temperamental man calling the shots. But when sparks start to fly behind the scenes, Lucie must make the final call between the radio-sponsored happily ever after or the man in the headphones next to her.
Review by Rebekah Moses, Public Services & Engagement Librarian
“I LOVE a good romance with a dual perspective and aggressive yearning! I can’t speak about the connection to Sleepless in Seattle since I haven’t seen the movie yet (but it’s on my list now), but I felt as though the single mom representation was very well done, and Lucie’s failed dates seemed very realistic. Each date felt like something I could hear happening to a friend. Also, who doesn’t love taking it old-school with radio stations and call lines?
While there were some aspects of Lucie’s life, like her found family and pregnancy, that I wish had more background explanation, there were also some great moments for celebrating all forms of love, romantic and platonic alike. The co-parenting relationship between Lucie, Grayson, and Mateo was so sweet, and I loved seeing the entire Team Lucie come out to support her happily ever after.
Other reviews have said that the story didn’t give Sleepless in Seattle, which I previously said I couldn’t speak to, but the Author’s Note says that that movie helped her write “a love letter to love,” and I think that’s the bigger connection to the movie. There are similarities with the single parent, radio station, and big romantic gesture aspects, which makes me think that die-hard lovers of the movie might be slightly disappointed that it’s not exactly like the movie.
I don’t think there is a negative thing I can say about this book, but I am a very strong lover of cheesy, cozy romances. With the above caveat for lovers of Sleepless in Seattle, I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves a cozy and cheesy romance!
