In February 2025, thousands of people will celebrate Douglass Day, an annual event held to celebrate the birthday of Frederick Douglass. Members of the public are invited to join this celebration by joining us at the University of Tennessee for a series of events to honor Douglass and to contribute to Black literary history!
Schedule of events:
Tuesday, February 11: Library/Multimedia Day (all day) - Join us in the Makerspace (Hodges Library) to help co-create a Black History Month blanket. Also, check out the BHM exhibit in Special Collections which is available for the week.
Wednesday, February 12: Black History Lightning Talks (4PM) - Join us in the Lindsey Young Auditorium for 15 minute lectures from on-campus scholars.
Thursday, February 13: Plenary Talk (5PM)- Dr. Jayme Canty will deliver her talk, "From Silence to Reconciliation: Black Queer Perspectives and Voices of the Black South *Sponsored by The Pride Center*
Friday, February 14: Frederick Douglass Day Celebration and Transcribe-a-thon from 12 PM - 3 PM, in the Frieson Black Cultural Center. We will be logging on to DouglassDay.org to help transcribe records from the Library of Congress' "African American Perspectives" Collection.
