Safety: While performing tests with the multimeter, rubber insulating gloves should be worn.
Arc flash can occur if the meter is not properly rated for the voltage, the meter is exposed to transient voltages outside of its operating conditions, or because of defective parts or components.
Do not use a meter/probe rated less than the voltage of the equipment being tested.
You should also check that the meter is in good condition and working properly.
- Check case for any signs of cracking.
- Check that the display is not faded.
- Unplug test probes and look for any signs of cracking or frayed wires.
- Check for gaps or cracks at the junction between the insulated wire and plugs/probes at each end.
- When the probes are plugged in they should feel secure and strong.
