National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, was an international event which happened every year in November. The challenge was to write 50,000 words in 30 days with the goal in mind of finishing a rough draft of a novel. The initiative promoted writing fluency and education throughout the month.
Note: the NaNoWriMo organization shut down in early 2025, but the challenge can still be practiced. This was their website link: nanowrimo.org. Some writers are now celebrating a new challenge called "Novel November" instead. For more alternatives to NaNoWriMo, check out the Writing Prep page.
