Searching for Titles

To search for titles in the Libby app:

  1. Tap the Search icon near the bottom of the app.
  2. Enter your search term in the search bar.
  3. Click Search or hit Enter (depending on your device) to see all results, or tap a search suggestion.

Note: If you have multiple libraries in your Libby app, you may need to click the library logo in the corner of the search box to swap which library you are searching. You can also swap libraries after completing your search by clicking the library logo in the upper left of your search results. Additional information related to searching multiple libraries can be found on the Libby Help page: Checking if a title's available at multiple libraries.

Search Results

While browsing or searching your library's catalog, tap any title's cover image to see details about the title. If a book or an audiobook is available, tap Borrow.

Borrowing

On the confirmation screen, tap the loan period next to "Borrowing for..." if you want to change it. Then, tap Borrow again to check out the title.

Holds

When you're browsing or searching in Libby, you may find titles that aren't available to borrow right away. If a title isn't available to borrow, tap Place Hold to join the wait list.

When the title becomes available, you'll get a notification and have 72 hours (3 days) to borrow it, suspend it, or cancel it. (For more information about these options, please see the Libby Help page: Holds.)

To find all of your holds, go to your Shelf and tap Holds at the top of the screen. From there, you can see where you are on the wait list for each hold, and you can tap Manage Hold to suspend or cancel holds as needed.

Renewing Titles

Renewing Titles

If you're not quite done with an ebook or audiobook, you can try renewing the loan.

Begin on the Shelf tab.

Access the title's Manage Loan option.

Select Renew Loan.

Note: Titles can be renewed a few days before it's due. However, if there is a hold on the title, you won't be able to renew it. You will need to place a hold on it instead.

Returning

Returning a Title

In Libby, titles are automatically returned on their due date. However, if you finish a title early, you can return it before its due date, which allows someone else access to the title if it is on hold. (When titles are returned (on their due date or early), they are removed from your Shelf in Libby.)

Begin on the Shelf tab.

Access the title's Manage Loan option.

Select Return Early. Then choose Return Loan to verify that you are ready to return the title.

Returning a Loan with Kindle

If you choose to read books using the Kindle app, the Return Early process will be a little different. When you click Return Early, you will be notified that the return must be completed via Amazon. Click the Return With Kindle button to begin.

On the Amazon page that opens, click the Return This Book link.

Next, you will provided information about what happens when you return the loan,  and you are asked "Are you sure you want to return this digital library loan?" Select Yes if you are ready to return the loan early.

Finally, you are returned to the Libby app, and asked if you were able to successfully return the loan or if you need help with the return.
