Book banning is "the practice of prohibiting or restricting the reading of certain books by the general public or by members of a local community or religious group" (Encyclopaedia Brittanica, n.d.).
In the United States, public and school libraries are legally allowed to restrict which books are made available to children. Lawmakers in some states have begun passing legislation to ban books in public and school libraries that do not accord with their views on racial and sexual minorities.
