Traditionally, metrics to measure scholarly impact have been based on the number of times an author's article has been mentioned by other researchers, also known as bibliometrics or citation analysis. There are (1) various citation index databases that index leading scholarly literature in Arts/Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences disciplines; (2) analytical methods can be used to measure the scholarly impact as well as (3) software tools to visualize citation networks.
The goal of this guide is to provide you an understanding of what databases/tools available to use and how to use them in order to quantify the relative importance or impact of your research in your specific subject discipline.
