Teaching, Learning, and Innovation (TLI), UT Libraries, and the Department of Psychology invite anyone from UT to participate in the Lifelong Learning Book Club this Spring 2022 semester.
This book club aims to promote a community of support around lifelong learning for teachers and students a like. So faculty, staff, and students are all welcome!
This upcoming Spring 2022 semester, we will be reading
Teach students how to learn: strategies you can incorporate into any course to improve student metacognition, study skills, and motivation
By Dr. Saundra McGuire
About this book: "Saundra McGuire takes the reader sequentially through the ideas and strategies that students need to understand and implement. First, she demonstrates how introducing students to metacognition and Bloom’s Taxonomy reveals to them the importance of understanding how they learn and provides the lens through which they can view learning activities and measure their intellectual growth. Next, she presents a specific study system that can quickly empower students to maximize their learning. Then, she addresses the importance of dealing with emotion, attitudes, and motivation by suggesting ways to change students’ mindsets about ability and by providing a range of strategies to boost motivation and learning; finally, she offers guidance to faculty on partnering with campus learning centers." Important note: Dr. Saundra McGuire will be the keynote speaker at the 2022 Innovative Teaching and Learning Conference hosted by TLI on March 29th, 2022. This is a great opportunity to become familiar with her work!
Stay tuned for more information about registering for and attending the conference.
The e-book is available online through the UT Libraries’ catalog, linked below.
The book club meetings will be held virtually via Zoom! We will be discussing all aspects of the book, so each session will be different.
You don't have to read the book to attend! This is just a group of people interested in lifelong learning and supporting students and new approaches to teaching!
