This guide will help you to find resources about all disciplines of engineering, including scholarly literature, standards, and handbooks.

Databases for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Web Sites

Find Text

FindText links databases to UT holdings.  Click on the FindText icon in database results and follow instructions from there. Electronic full text options will be displayed if available.  You may need to navigate to the volume and issue of the article on the linked publisher's website.

Search Operators

Most databases require that you combine words in your search with AND or OR. AND retrieves records with all words.  OR retrieves records with any of the words.

mercury pollution AND coal

mercury pollution OR mercury accumulation

nuclear AND computer* AND (reliability OR dependability)

The asterisk (*)  truncates a word so that for this example, either computer or computers has to be in the records.

BooksPlus, the Library Catalog

The BooksPlus box on the library home page searches the library's catalog to find out what books or journals are owned.  Keep in mind that individual articles are not listed in the catalog.

Interlibrary Loan

If you need something not held at UT, you may use Interlibrary Loan to get a free copy.  Articles will generally be sent as PDF documents in a few days.  Books can be slower since they come in the mail. If you are faculty or staff, you can sign up for Library Express when registering for interlibrary loan. Library Express delivers materials (both ILL books and UT volumes) to your departmental office.
