Open Access: A Lunchtime Discussion with
Faculty Dr. Gladys Alexandre, Dr. Albrecht VonArnim were
instrumental in creating the campus’ Open Publishing Support Fund sponsored by
the Office of Research and the University Libraries. Wednesday, October 20 Open
Access , Intellectual Property, & Copyright: What Faculty Need to Know Librarians Peter Fernandez (Pendergrass Library) and
Donna Braquet (Hodges Library) will present an overview of the Open Access
movement as it affects faculty, publishers, and the academy. This workshop will provide resources and
practical tips that will allow you to protect your intellectual property and

Restless: The Student Voice of the Open Access Movement,” by Nick Shockey,
Director of the Right to Research Coalition, and Director of Student Advocacy
at the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition.
Winners of last year’s Sparky Awards, a national student video contest
promoting the idea of open access, will be shown following a discussion of
Shockey’s talk.
