UT AgResearch and Extension Support

This guide is designed to help faculty and staff of the UT Extension Service gain a better understanding of the resources and services available through the University Libraries.

Accessing Materials

Net ID and Password - Your key to online library resources!

Your NetID is the "name" part of your University email address "name@utk.edu". If you don't know your University email address, search for yourself in the UT Online Directory. (Link opens in new tab.)

Your email address will be displayed. To remotely access the Libraries' electronic databases, your campus must be listed as "Knoxville," regardless of your actual location. If you need help with this step, call 974-7338 or email Pendergrass Library, agvetlib@utk.edu.

UT Libraries' Catalog

Connect to the UT Libraries' online catalog. (Link opens in new tab.)

Access to the University Libraries online catalog is free and available to everyone. The Library Catalog provides call number, location(s) and circulation status (checked in or checked out) for library materials. For UT patrons, the "My Account" feature in the online catalog will allow you to see what you have checked out, renew materials, and place holds online. Please contact the library for more information about checking your library record.

Access UT Subscriptions Easily

Libkey Nomad is a tool that provides one click access to PDFs. The browser plugin for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox pulls data from our UTK library resources and Open Access resources to provide you quick access to full text content. LibKey Nomad is offered by Third Iron. Here is the link to download the extension. Link opens in a new tab.

Google Scholar

You can view whether we have any of the articles you find in Google Scholar in our databases. Google Scholar will be able to link to our resources from their search page. Go to settings from the Google Scholar homepage, click on "Library Links" and enter "University of Tennessee - FullText@U TLibraries" in the search box.

Request Materials Available in Print

Use Reource Sharing to request materials (books, book chapters, articles, etc.) that UT Libraries owns in print. Books will be mailed to your off-site location and shorter items will be scanned and delivered to you electronically. Register as a distance user with Resource Sharing to take advantage of this option!

Register as a Distance User

Register in ILLiad for delivery of items - first time users must register:

Go to the Resource Sharing web site. (Link opens in new tab.) Click "Logon to ILLiad." Enter your NetID and password. Provide your personal information. Choose status: Faculty (Distance Ed) or Staff (Distance Ed). When you choose Distance Ed, it lets Interlibrary Services know delivery is to a remote location. Electronic Delivery: Choose YES Delivery Option: DE Delivery Do not use a PO box for your address, as items are delivered via FedEX and a signature is required.

Request an item from Resource Sharing:

Sign on to ILLiad and click the Interlibrary Loan tab. (Link opens in a new tab.) Choose the type of request you want to make: book, chapter of a book, article, report, etc. Fill in as much information as you have about the item, and note any unusual circumstances in the notes/other category. Interlibrary Services will deliver books and other items via FedEX and articles via the Web.

Returning items borrowed from UTK Libraries or other libraries

Materials borrowed through Resource Sharing, whether they are from UTK or other libraries must be returned to UT Knoxville Libraries via a traceable delivery service (UPS, FedEX, Insured US Mail). Borrowers are responsible for lost materials. Please call the Resource Sharing office with questions, (865) 974-4240.
